Halloween: The Game is a 1v4 online horror game at heart — but it ships with real single player options. Officially confirmed solo content: the six-chapter story mode played as Michael Myers, private matches against AI, and progression systems that work across both. This guide covers every way to play Halloween: The Game without queuing online.
01WHAT SOLO PLAY INCLUDES
IllFonic's progression overview confirms the game supports "singleplayer story mode, private matches against AI, or online 1v4 matchmaking" — three official ways to play, two of them fully solo:

This combination is deliberate: IllFonic's CCO Jared Gerritzen says the studio believed "adding in a singleplayer mode would set us apart from other titles in the genre," and it does — few asymmetrical horror games ship a narrative campaign at launch.
02STORY MODE (THE BIG ONE)
The flagship solo content is the story mode: "The Night He Came Home," played as Michael. Full detail is on the story mode guide; the solo-relevant facts are:
- Six chapters with in-engine cinematics and Dr. Samuel J. Loomis narrating;
- several difficulties, optional objectives, secret collectibles and multiple endings;
- special items and collectibles exclusive to this mode;
- singleplayer challenges per chapter that unlock alternate outfits and cosmetics — including a legendary Michael look for 100% completion.
03PRIVATE MATCHES AGAINST AI
Officially confirmed as a progression-eligible mode: private matches against AI sit alongside story mode and online matchmaking, and XP earned there feeds the same four progression levels. That means solo players can level Killer, Civilian and Weapon tracks, earn Perk Points and chase Passive/Progressive challenges without touching public lobbies.
If you're new to 1v4 games, use AI private matches to learn the maps and escape routes before playing online — the maps, landmarks and item spawn logic carry over, so the practice is direct.
Details IllFonic hasn't confirmed yet: whether AI matches run fully offline or require a connection, AI difficulty settings, and bot hero counts. We'll verify these in the Sep 8 build and update this page.
04DOES SOLO PLAY PROGRESS YOUR ACCOUNT?
Yes. Officially: "By completing matches or enjoying the singleplayer story mode, players earn experience points that are applied to four distinct categories of Player Progression Levels." The four tracks — Profile, Killer, Civilian and Weapon — all accept XP from solo sources. Story mode also feeds the singleplayer challenge family with its exclusive rewards, and Michael's Weapon Level (kills with specific equipped weapons) is naturally farmable in the campaign.

- Release: September 8, 2026 at 9 AM PT on Steam, Epic Games Store, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. Digital Deluxe pre-orders get Early Access from September 4, 2026 at 9 AM PT.
- PC requirements (minimum): Windows 11 64-bit, Intel LGA 1200+ / AMD AM4+ (Zen 2+), 16 GB RAM, GTX 1660+ / RX 590+ / Arc A770+ (1080p @ 30 fps), DirectX 12, broadband connection, 45 GB SSD space (SSD required).
- Content rating: rated for ages 17+ (frequent graphic violence, blood and gore; beer and marijuana items; some nudity in singleplayer).
- Languages: English (full audio) plus French, Italian, German, Spanish, Japanese, Simplified Chinese, Russian, Korean and Brazilian Portuguese text.
Single Player FAQ
Can you play Halloween: The Game single player?
Yes. The game ships a full six-chapter singleplayer story mode (played as Michael Myers) plus private matches against AI, both of which feed account progression.
Do you need to play multiplayer to unlock everything?
No. Solo modes earn XP for all four progression levels and have their own exclusive items, outfits and a legendary Michael look. Some cosmetics and profile-card items may be multiplayer-weighted, but the confirmed systems all accept solo play.
Can you play as a Hero against AI?
Private matches against AI are confirmed as a mode, and the full civilian cast is playable in private matches — exact bot-vs-hero configurations will be verified in the launch build.
Is the singleplayer story mode online-only?
IllFonic hasn't confirmed whether story mode requires a connection. The Steam listing requires a broadband connection at minimum spec, but that may cover multiplayer only — to be verified post-launch.
Is there couch or local multiplayer?
Not confirmed. The listed modes are story mode, private AI matches and online 1v4 — no local split-screen has been announced.
